But the solicitious buzz that hummed through out campus that morning hinted at the spectacular events that would soon take place. When students began trickling into school dressed in peculiar outfits, ranging from bathrobes to bunny costumes, it became evident that this was no ordinary day. It was time for the Blind Date Dance, when anything and everything was possible. Only on this day would it be perfectly acceptable to hula dance blindfolded on a lunch table, or strum a few chords on an amplified guitar in the Old Cafeteria, all during normal school hours. Crowds may have gathered around students as they lip-synced to Vanilla Ice tunes, or spouted a few lines of romantic poetry, but not because they were surprised at the antics. They merely wanted to get a better view. This year, the theme to the Blind Date Dance was conveniently selected to be "Who's That Girl?" True to the theme, students took special care that the identity of their roommate's date remained a mystery, even though the truth occassionally leaked. Even if the surprise was spoiled, the methods by which the blind dates met were no less amusing. "My person was supposed to start stripping," recalled Senior Natalie Sukhaphadhana. "He failed. The only thing he managed to strip offwas his belt. II After meeting in their dates, the couple would venture off into a variety of entertaining diversions, often with other couples. Some decided to leave cam pus, perferring to share dinners, movies, or a night a Chuck E. Cheese's together. Others remained on IMSA grounds, treating themselves to pizza, homemade meals, or a rented video. However, the night eventually led to the Ac Pit dance, decorated in colorful key-and lock wall <lees. All in all, the evening offered a com pletely different experience for each participant. What ever measures they took in locating their dates, the night was worth the trouble.
