The Illinois Mathemat– ics and Science Academy is virtually on the edge of nowhere, surrounded only by corn and quiet, middle-class suburbia. Students at the Academy may as well live in a vacuum, for the outside world has no real influence on us, at least in terms of fashion, music, books, news, etc. Yet, this hasn 't stopped students from developing healthy attitudes towards diversity; attitudes that are extremely crucial today, as the scope of a person's finite world is expanding to include the entire globe. Several students have gone beyond just educating themselves, instead seeking the education of everyone who lives, studies, works, and plays at IMSA. Clubs like Peer Multicultural Educa– tors (PME), Spectrum, Jewish Student Alliance (JSA), IMSA Christian Fellowship (ICF), and Amnesty International are just a chip of the iceberg. This year, Spectrum had great success with its celebration of National Comi ng Out Week, students had lots of exciting education and fun at PME 's annual workshop, Amnesty International gained recognition through its efforts to aid Bruce Harris and Casa Alianza, and ICF brought the national campaign "True Love Goes Campu s" to IMSA, preaching chastity until n g c Ma»y of these clubs, among others, with lots of help from Robert Hernandez in Admissions and Loretta Kelly, Junior Class Club Officer, organized IMSA's first Multicultural Awareness Week in conjunc– tion with International Celebration. 178 c €iuU
