S E R V E , V O L L E Y , C H A R G E T H E N E T ! T he 1997-1998 school year was an enjoyable one for the Lady Titans' tennis teams. Both the Varsity and JV teams excelled in both the game and their enthusiasm for the sport. JV member sophomore Anjali Joshi said, "It was a good year to start my IMSA tennis ca– reer." The varsity team experienced suc– cesses and downfalls, though on the whole the year was rewarding. The captains, seniors Karen Chesley, Sonya Koo, and Anisha Shetty, kept the excite– ment in the game while Senior Coach Dan Dickey and Assistant Coach Jay Thomas helped the girls improve on their game. "The coaches are really helpful...I've learned a lot about the game," said Karen. Though there was not "too much hope of going to state," as one of the captains said, the team displayed their Titan spirit by "playing hard," as Anjali said, and putting extra time to practice at the Aurora Tennis Club, where girls improved their skills by going to group lessons and practice sessions. The team saw its success in the improvement of its players rather than the number of games it won. By taking such an optimistic and challenging look towards the game, the girls enjoyed themselves more while on the tennis court. As junior Megan Kiolbasa enthused, "We had a lot of fun."
