Our Time 1998

Picture not available A vital part of how successful an IMSA student performed in any given class was almost always directly related to how he or she felt about the teacher. Relationships with teachers strengthened a student's ablity to focus and learn in class. That was why, as Junior Angel Anderson said, a cool teachers should "be open" and under– standing. Angel said, "I like it when a teacher really understands what I am trying to say. It helps me understnad them in class." Junior Aimee Wilczynski agreed. "A good teacher should treat the student as though he was on the same level," she advocated. Another common response was that a cool teacher should have a good sense of humor. Senior Kavitha Sagisaid that cool teachers are "always happy in class. I like Dr. Hobbs because she is always like that. She makes me feel like being in class isn't a bad thing." Junior Paul Bunsongsikul shares those sentiments, saying "Cool teachers should be very (Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall William (Fritz (Dr. Connie Ofatcher (Dr. Michael(palmisano TedParge Catherine Veal (Dr. (David<Barr (Deborah (Juffy Michele Micetich Edward Moyer, Jr. (Dr. Martin Ramirez Linda S'hie Ike (Dr. Qregg Sinner (Dr. LuAnn Smith Linda Torp Matthew Wicks understanding and very easygoing...that's why I like Mr. James. He 's very empathetic to students." Other students looked at the question from a different point of view. Senior Marcy Van Brunt-McMillan thought that a teacher should know when "to draw the line." "I think that a cool teacher would be able to see when a certain amount of homework was too much for the class and would tailor the classwork to meet the needs of the class," advises Marcy. Though some very definite opinions exist as to how different students feel about teachers, most feel that a cool teacher should, in general, be able to relate to students and understand their own personal situations. However, aside from this opinon, there was one other thing that remained constant, regardless of which student answered the question. Perhaps sophomore Karina Pacyniak stated it best when she said, simply, "No homewo r k !" SJttrnAc / 4 ?
