T h e C a n d i d a t e As you enter the Social Science office, you are greeted by a six foot tall cartoon charac– ter in shining armor. No, it's not instruc– tional aide Ms. Mosshammer, it's Mitch Bugajsky's rendition of Marvin the Maritian, proclaiming the Social Science team's philosophy:"It ain't as serious as it seems." The team spreads these ideas to the rest of the community through a variety of activities it is involved in. These include in-class, academically based, or extracurricular activities. The most well-known activity was the mock election held in November. Students representing various political parties held a debate, followed by an all- campus vote. "The mock election really reflects the actual vote," commented Dr. Victory. Other important activities include Metro History Fair, where Mr. Hollister is working with computer-presented projects, something never done nationally, and a problem-based learning project during the Consortium. Delegates worked through "Jane's Baby" and Mr. Stepien guided IMSA students in the role of parents. While it may not be as serious as it seems, the Social Science team is an important aspect of our education and expands our world with unique and occasionally abstract activities. -Janet Hodur top left: Mr.Hollister is found entering mid– term grades into his trusty computer. top right: William Wentsworth waits after class to speak with Mr. Fraga. bottom right: Mr. Hollister and Dr. Victory are found in their office discussing the finer points of life. bottom left: Dr. Nokkentved relaxes du. ing class with James Randall.
