S m a r t G u y s C a n J u m p "You guys have basketball?" When schools find out they are about to face the mighty Titans, they are filled with . . .curiosity. The boys' basketball players often encountered stereotypes and presump– tions this season, but doubts as to their abilities typically dissipated within the first quarter of each intense game. With some time-proven senior strength, developing junior strategy, and the refreshing new faces of the sophomores, the Titans played a fun and consistent season. After last year's tough game against Aurora Christian, this year's game was anticipated with eagerness and trepidation. Aurora was higher ranked and had proven themselves a good team in the past. When the game was over, the scoreboard did not reflect the true winners, who had made great strides in ability and confidence in the span of a year. A ten point deficit couldn't take that away from the Varsity Titans, who were able to face anything under the leadership of Coach Galvin. Of course, the Coach occasionally had to demonstrate his own shooting ability, just to keep the team humble. The Sophomore Team enjoyed the direction of first year coach Todd Russ, who remained optimistic and supportive, even on the infamous twelve game losing streak. Sophomore captain Sam Yagan is looking towards the future: "Next year will be a tough year where this year's sophomores will have the chance to lay the foundation for a great senior year." Senior Eric Hewing described the team as one that spawned new friendships with the usual amount of disagreements. Next year's team will miss the seniors, but is looking forward to the chance to prove themselves again.
