S w i m m i n g Heather McKee and Aimee Chong show what too much practice can do. This year's season was "excellent. It went really well," said girls' swimming coach Andrea Swenson. The swim team saw an increase in numbers from last year, finishing the season with 37 girls. About half of the team was composed of sophomores. The team also had an improved record from last year, with Varsity finishing eight and four and JV coming in at eight and three. Captain Jessica Pahler noted that "The highlight of the season was getting second place at the Morris invitational. Team spirit was really high that day and it was really fun." Unfortunately, not everything went that well, like the meet with Rosary and York. The team placed third out of three, but it was a triumph for team spirit with lots of cheering and understanding. The swimmers on the JV team provided a lot of depth and a lot of fun. There were ten to fifteen girls who had never swum with a team before. The team demonstrated their unique senses of humor on the last day of practice before sectionals. The swimmers armed themsleves with waterguns, soaked Coach John Fitzgerald, and then threw him into the pool- apparently a tradition. Heather McKee claims that her best memory of the season was "Singing 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' with Aimee Chong as we kicked up and down the pool." Sometimes they threw in Old MacDonald for variation. What should we remember about this year's team? "Real women don't sweat, they get wet!" Kristen Gruber and Jessica Pahler take off.
