G i r l s ' V o l l e y b a l l The Lady Titans came back this year for another successful season with Varsity having the best record in IMSA history. They participated in four tournaments, described by Coach Kim Vitek as being "fun and helpful." The challenges faced in the tournaments allowed the players to learn more about themselves and their abilities. The challenges of the season did get a bit overwhelming at times. Senior Nikki Lowery described one such time- the game against Huntley. "We had never beaten them before, and the match was really close. We lost in the third game by a couple of points. It was more frustrat– ing than any other point in the season, but when we watched the video of ourselves the next day, we were able to work together to fix our problems." The Junior Varsity team got their season off to a good start with a tournament at Hinkley- Big Rock. The team placed second and, according to Sophomore Jen Kim, it was something to sing about. "We sang We got a trophy, we got a trophy,' all the way home!" The Junior Varsity team came a long way this year, as summed up by Sophomore Megan Mandernach: "We did a really good job working together because at the begin– ning of the year we didn't know each other and at the end, we were a team." This teamwork was reflected in the record that they finished with, and also with the increas– ing spirit that they displayed during the games. With attitudes like these, the Lady Titans will continue to bring in better volleyball records in the seasons ahead.
